GAMING MARATHON FAQ:

What is the Gaming Marathon?
The Top Secret Colonials host a 24-hour Gaming Marathon every semester to benefit charities such as The Children's Miracle Network and The Batch Foundation. 100% of the funds raised go directly to these foundations. The way the event works: chairs, tables, and power are provided, everything else is up to you.  Students are invited to come play video games of their choice, compete in tournaments, and meet others with similar interests.

How do I enter?
You can pre-register here or by simply showing up at the door.  If you pre-register before April 4th the entrance donation is $5, or $10 at the door.  You will receive a wristband with your payment at the door that you must wear at all times.

What do I need to bring?
The Gaming Marathon is a completely BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) event. That means you must bring your games and computers/consoles/monitors in order to play.  TSC will provide assistance setting up as well as chairs/tables/power/internet.

Do I need to stay in the ballroom the entire time?
No! You are free to come and go as you like after receiving your wristband.  In order to receive SET credit, you MUST swipe in and out every time you leave and come back.  Please see the below SET credit section for further information.

Can I reserve seats next to each other?
Seating is first come, first serve.  We have a large amount of seating available, but if you are worried about it the earlier you get here the better.  If you are part of a large club and would like to reserve space in advance please email topsecretcolonials@mail.rmu.edu and we will be in contact with more information.

Do I have to play video games the entire time?
No!  While this event is mainly focused around video games, you are more than welcome to bring board games, tabletop games, and any other types of games you can think of (excluding those of the alcoholic variety -- campus rules)

Can I bring a guest from outside RMU?
Yes, you can!  They will have to pay the entrance donation like any other participant.  There is a section to register them in the pre-registration form in order to get the early bird discounted rate for them as well.

Will there be food provided?
There will be a snack table students will be able to purchase food and drinks from after 12 AM (midnight) in the ballroom.  Students are able to go downstairs to the Yorktown Cafe before 12 AM (midnight) to purchase food and drinks.

How many hours of SET credit do I get?
You will get as many hours of SET credit as you are there for the event.  That means, if you are there for 8 hours, you will get 8 hours.  You can earn up to the full 24 if you are there for the full 24 hours. In order to receive the full 24 hours, you must swipe in and out every time you leave the ballroom. If a student does not swipe in and out at least once you will be disqualified as there is no way a person can go 24 hours without needing to leave.

What type of SET credit does this count for?
This event will go under Community Service category of SET credit.  To complete this category you only need 30 hours, so if you earn 24 here you will only need to earn 6 more hours!

Will this event count as hours towards my fraternity/sorority required community service?
That is to be determined by your community service chair.  TSC is the sole host of the gaming marathon and is not allowing any other club to use the total hours of community service towards their own requirements.

What happens if I forget to sign out?
If you leave the gaming marathon without signing out and do not return, you will be disqualified from receiving SET credit.

What am I signing in and out with?
We are using Orgsync to track attendance.  Therefore you must have completed your Orgsync account and have your freedom card on you at all times during this event.

How do I sign up for tournaments?
Tournament sign up will be available at the door upon entrance to the Gaming Marathon.  You will sign your name and phone number and will be contacted when it is your turn to play.  Anyone is welcome to join the tournament games as spectators.

How will the tournaments work?
After you sign up for a game, you will be texted and called over the loudspeaker to come play.  Games will also be announced if you wish to participate by watching.  Specific details about the games will be available at the signup table, including types of matches, how many brackets etc.

Do I need to bring anything to the tournaments?
The majority of tournaments will have all equipment already provided.  Tournaments that will require you to have your own device/account will be listed as such in the signup.

What do I get for competing?
All first prize winners will receive 1 gift card as a prize!
